Michael Moore's speech at UVSC served two purposes for me: First, it reminded me that the republic is indeed in jeopardy from lack of serious public discourse. And second, it reassured me that if Mr. Moore is indeed the last, best hope for American socialism, we're not as bad off as I feared. He and "mini-Mike" Roseanne Barr offered a modest amount of humor and several dozen well-worn, two-sentence applause lines. No teaching. No enlightenment. Nothing new. In the words of Shakespeare, it was "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
