Three juveniles were cited and released to their parents in Ogden early Friday after allegedly taking one of their parents' cars and smashing the windows of other vehicles.
About 4 a.m., an officer spotted a car parked at the Ogden City Cemetery and three 14-year-old boys in the cemetery, said Ogden Police Lt. Dave Tarran.
Originally the boys claimed they were "out looking for ghosts," Tarran said. The officer then noticed two golf clubs inside the boys' car.
After several minutes of questioning, the boys began to change their story and eventually admitted they had been smashing out car windows with the golf clubs.
Up to nine vehicles had their windows broken out, Tarran said. Damage was estimated at between $2,000 and $3,000.
In addition to the vandalism, the boys also were too young to have driver licenses. One of the boys had taken his mother's car without her knowledge, Tarran said. In fact, she didn't even know her car was gone when police called her, he said.
