Every time I hear somebody quote history as an example for "traditional marriage" and the "sanctity of marriage," I cringe. Although there were certainly some that practiced "traditional marriage," there are many examples of those in power who, although married, were not faithful. The Founding Fathers of this country, though wonderful people in other ways, were found many times to have mistresses on the side. The Founding Fathers of this state practiced polygamy.
Traditional marriage today is in trouble because of divorce and infidelity. It has nothing to do with gay people wanting to marry. We should support all those who want to make a commitment to each other. We should certainly not use examples of the past to promote discrimination.
