WOMEN'S SOCCER: Just two minutes into the first sudden-death overtime period, forward Jaime Rendich's penalty kick gave BYU's women's soccer team a 1-0 league victory at New Mexico on Saturday.

Rendich, the team's leading scorer, picked up her ninth goal of the season to give the Cougars a 2-1-2 MWC record and 6-9-4 overall.

"We played very well today, especially in the first half, which is something we've been struggling with all year," Cougar coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "The opportunities to score were there; we just can't buy a goal. Hopefully this win is a positive thing for the team and will help them confidence."

The final league game of the year for BYU is at Utah 1 p.m. Saturday, before hosting the MWC Championships at South Stadium beginning Nov. 3.
