LAYTON — The Layton City Fire Department received high honors for its efforts in training city firefighters.

The Utah Fire and Rescue Academy presented gold awards to the department for all seven core certification levels, an unprecedented achievement in the state of Utah, said Jim Judd, academy outreach coordinator.

In order for a fire department to achieve gold status, 90 percent of its personnel must become certified. Training is designed to help the fire departments deal with the different types of fires they may face every year.
