PROVO — Three residents of Provo and Orem were recently presented with the 197th and 200th Governor's Points of Light Award on Capitol Hill in Salt Lake City.

Roy and Frances Hammond of Provo were selected by Gov. Olene Walker to receive the award based on their history of service and community involvement. The Hammonds have been involved in 45 humanitarian missions around the world providing dental service in many developing countries.

Jim Pritchard of Orem was selected to receive the award because of his work with troubled youths. Pritchard began hosting "talk circles" and sweat lodges six years ago with a correction facility in Gunnison. Currently, he hosts the talks at five other youth correction facilities in Utah.

The Points of Light award was started by former Gov. Mike Leavitt in October 2000. The awards are given weekly.
