CEDAR CITY — Southern Utah's men's golf team won four of six points Sunday to best Utah State 8 1/2 to 3 1/2 in the two teams' Ryder Cup-style match this weekend. The match was contested over the par 72, 6,772-yard Cedar Ridge Golf Course.
In Sunday's head-to-head matches, Southern Utah got wins from Jesse Wheeler, Eric Nilsson, Zach Johnson and Kenny Ebalo, while Preston Otte and Brett Black picked up points for the Aggies. Wheeler topped Brendon Ehlers 4-and-2, Ebalo topped Cody Huot 2-1 while Nilsson and Johnson got by Jake Blair and Jared Humphries, respectively, 1-up. Otte beat Taylor Edwards 3-2 and Black held of Jared Brader, 2-1.
"Our intention for this weekend's match was to get in some golf and stay sharp for the last tournament of the season at Northridge in two weeks," said SUU coach Richard Church. "I think we did that. It was a good opportunity for both teams to play some friendly, competitive golf. I thought our guys played well; so did Utah State's players.
