Obituary: Barbara Mefford

1914 ~ 2004

Barbara Christensen Mefford, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2004 as a result of complications from a broken hip.

She was born in Loa, Utah on December 8, 1914 to Clem and Alta Jacobs Christensen. Barbara married Dwight Mefford in 1936; later

divorced.

An active member of the LDS Church, she loved Relief Society and was the compassionate service leader for over 10 years. She was also a worker at the Oakland Temple.

A hard working, caring, outgoing, friendly lady, she worked as an analyst and supervisor of the Computer Tabulation Division of the California DMV in Sacramento, California for 38 years. She was involved in social and civic clubs and was an avid golfer. She loved handcrafts, especially crocheting and quilting. Friends and family were the recipients of many beautiful items. She made Sacramento her home for 50 years. The last couple of years, Barbara lived at the Coventry in Cottonwood Heights and dearly loved the many friends she made there as well as the very kind and caring staff.

Barbara is survived by her brother, Jay Van Christensen, Centerville, UT; sister Clema Bingham, Wildomar, CA; daughter Margie Barson, Salt Lake City, UT; and daughter Toni Mefford of Brookings, OR. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Tammy Munn, Stacie Campbell, Shellie, Brad, Brian and Kimberly Barson; as well as 20 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services to take place in the Clarkston, Utah Cemetery on Thursday, October 28th, at 1 p.m. following a family viewing at Larkin Mortuary, in Salt Lake. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 29th, at 10:00 a.m., at the Coventry, 6898 So. 2300 East.
