Obituary: LaVere A. Griffeth

1923 ~ 2004

LaVere A. Griffeth, passed away peacefully Tuesday October 26, 2004, at the age of 81, of natural causes.

Born in Grover, Wyoming, April 6, 1923 to Anciel and Luella Griffeth, he was one of 10 children. He graduated from Star Valley High School, prior to attending Utah State University. He served his country with honor in World War II. At age 24, he married Ruth Maurine Gibbons, January 20, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple and then served an LDS mission in the Southern States. They were blessed with two daughters and four sons.

LaVere was a master carpenter and general contractor and spent countless hours helping others with projects. He built several LDS chapels, personal residences, and commercial buildings in Utah and surrounding states. He loved and served his church in numerous positions, which made a difference in others lives. LaVere and Ruth served a mission in the Washington DC Temple. He has continued to serve in the Jordan River Temple for many years. Dad has countless friends, neighbors, and family that will truly miss him.

LaVere was survived by six children: Patricia (George) Richards, Craig (Susan) Griffeth, Robert (Doreen) Griffeth, Gary (Claudia) Griffeth, Julia Griffeth Brown, Kent (Vicki) Griffeth; sisters, Mildred Griffeth and Maurine Steiner; 30 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; brothers, Delynne, Ariel, and Vaughn; sisters, Leora, Alta, Arvilla, and LeVelle.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 30, 2004 at the River Ridge 8th Ward, located at 10224 So. 1300 W. at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may visit Friday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E., and also one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Primary Children's Hospital in LaVere's name.
