Death of woman found in her home is probed

Police are calling the death of a 75-year-old woman found in her Glendale home Friday afternoon suspicious.

Salt Lake police detective Kevin Joiner said on Saturday the death was being investigated by homicide detectives, and the name of the victim could not be released until family members have been notified.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. Sandra Urry said officers responded to the home, in the 1100 South block of 1200 West, on Friday after neighbors noticed newspapers accumulating in the yard. When no one answered the door, officers went into the home and found the dead woman.

Urry said police are not sure how she died, which is why her death causes suspicion.

"There was no reason that we could see, no cause of death, and there was some evidence there that caused us concern," Urry said, but declined to say what that evidence was.

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results from the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office.

Urry said she did not know whether the woman lived alone, though she suspects she did.
