PASADENA FOR TWO. The Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau is offering four Weekend Getaway Packages, which can be booked online at or by calling 1-800-805-4604. Each package includes a two-night stay at one of five hotels and an in-room amenity basket. The Cultural Collage package includes two passes to the Norton Simon Museum, a guided tour of the Gamble House and passes to the Huntington Library and Gardens. The Celebrate Pasadena-Style has a couple's massage, dinner at Madre's, passes to the Huntington Library and brunch at the Ritz-Carlton, Huntington Hotel & Spa. Pasadena Dreaming, geared toward lovers of antiques, offers discounts at the Pasadena Antique Center and Antique Mall and two passes to the Rose Bowl Flea Market. The fourth package, A Plaid Tidings Holiday in Pasadena, includes tickets to performances of a special holiday version of "Forever Plaid."

VIRGINIA IS FOR BIRD LOVERS. With the recent completion of the Piedmont (central) section, Virginia's statewide Birding and Wildlife Trail is now finished. The Coastal phase opened in 2002 and the Mountain phase was completed last year. Loop trails off the main driving route take visitors to some of the state's best wildlife-watching spots. HAWAII UPDATES WEB SITE. The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau has reworked its Web site,, to make it interactive, bringing the sights and sounds of the islands to Web surfers. Just click on one of the six islands to start your online adventure.

MONTEREY DEALS. November through January must be "off season" for hotels and attractions on California's beautiful Monterey Peninsula. Many offer their best rates during those months. Four small hotels, known collectively as The Inns of Monterey (the Hotel Pacific, the Monterey Bay Inn, the Spindrift Inn and the Victorian Inn), are among them. SCENIC DRIVE IN ARIZONA. U.S. 93 is the quickest route between Phoenix and Las Vegas. The section that begins in Wikieup and goes south to the town of Nothing, which is so small it isn't even on our map, and ends in Wickenburg is considered scenic enough that it was designated the Joshua Forest Scenic Road.
