Panel recommends auditor to fill post

John M. Schaff, acting state auditor general since September, has been recommended to permanently fill the post.

The Legislative Audit Subcommittee recommended Schaff, who has been deputy auditor general the past 15 years, to legislative leaders who are to meet Nov. 9 to consider the appointment.

He would replace Wayne Welsh, who retired in September after 30 years, 20 years as auditor general.

The 25-member office conducts performance audits and evaluates the cost-effectiveness of state agencies, institutions, school districts, taxing districts, state colleges and universities.
