Get the facts, professor

It was with some amusement that I read professor Richard Davis' (Sept. 30) viewpoint and scolding of LDS Church members and their perceived voting habits. The good professor should be aware that of the remaining states that permit voting a straight party ticket, Utah has a much lower percentage that vote this way than nearly all other states. This would indicate that Utah voters take to heart the wise advice to "study the issues and candidates" much more seriously and use straight-party voting much less than voters in most states.

A claim that "many LDS Church members blatantly ignore the directions of the First Presidency" is not supported by any credible analysis and is an overreaction.
