LDS today embrace GOP

In his article on the voting practices of LDS people in Utah (Sept. 30), Richard Davis uses the names of past LDS leaders who were Democrats to support his thesis. But, we must remember that those leaders faced political issues far different from those we face today. The political issues they faced were issues such as the Cold War, labor disputes and the role of government in the economic lives of its citizens. If they were alive today, I know those same leaders would continue to be true to their moral compasses, but I doubt they would continue to call themselves proud Democrats while knowing their party's positions on the moral issues that have become the political issues of our day, such as abortion and same-sex marriage.
