BOTTOM LINE: The Cardinal (3-1) continue to look better than expected. Now Stanford makes the trip to South Bend for a reunion with its former coach.

BOTTOM LINE: After a week off, the Trojans (4-0) host the only opponent, California, that beat them last year in a showdown of Top 10, undefeated teams

BOTTOM LINE: WAC rival Fresno State fell, but the Broncos (5-0) remain ranked and unbeaten. They enjoy a bye before traveling to Tulsa on Oct. 16.

BOTTOM LINE: It's been awhile since the Rams (1-4) have been in a hole like this. They don't play again until Oct. 16, when they visit San Diego State.

BOTTOM LINE: Maybe coach John Robinson should have announced his retirement sooner. The Rebels (1-4), fresh off their first win this year, now go to BYU.

BOTTOM LINE: The Cowboys (3-1) are riding high, but they should be tested this week when they entertain San Diego State in their conference-opener.

BYU at Air Force


Last week:

Navy 24, Air Force 21

BOTTOM LINE: Falcons (2-3) are smarting from back-to-back losses, including a heart-breaker vs. the Midshipmen. They'll try to right the ship against Lobos.

UCLA 33, San Diego St. 10

BOTTOM LINE: The Aztecs (2-2) open conference play up in the high plains of Laramie against an improving Wyoming team.

Nov. 13

New Mexico at BYU


Last week:

Utah 28, New Mexico 7

BOTTOM LINE: The Lobos (2-3) need to find an offense, quick, if they hope to finish near the top of the conference. They take on Air Force this week.

Nov. 20

BYU at Utah


Last week:

Utah 28, New Mexico 7

BOTTOM LINE: Can anybody stop, or at least slow down, the Utes (5-0)? We won't find out for a while, as they have a bye before hosting UNC on Oct. 16.
