Driver gets citation in car-TRAX collision

A small car collided with a TRAX train Tuesday night at the University of Utah. No one was injured.

About 9:45 p.m., the car and train were headed west on South Campus Drive. The car was stopped at a red light at 1500 East. When the light turned green, the car's driver made a left turn toward Rice-Eccles Stadium but collided with the train, university police officer Jordan Winegar said.

The car's speed was estimated at 3 mph, and the train's speed was unknown, Winegar said.

The car received damage to the windshield and the driver's side-view mirror. Damage to the train was unknown.

The car's driver was cited with improper left turn because there is a sign prohibiting such turns for westbound traffic, Winegar said.
