This year's Deseret Morning News Fall Home Improvement, Remodeling and Decorating Show will feature two local experts who specialize in decorating on a budget and organizing a home and lifestyle.
Jill Williams Grover and Marla Dee will teach seminars on how to make a home a more beautiful and organized place to live.
Grover is a well-respected designer with experience in designing homes around the world, from Turkey to California.
In 2003, she was hired to decorate Celine Dion's home in Las Vegas and dressing room at Caesar's Palace.
Grover enjoys the fast-paced life of being an interior designer, but she also cherishes her quiet moments relaxing in her northern Utah home on her family's farm.
"Interior design is a matter of personal taste and what works for your lifestyle," she said. "Just because someone spends a lot of money does not mean that the design is beautiful to all people. I think everyone needs to look at their own lifestyle and what works for them. That is where personal design begins."
Grover's background began in fashion design and quickly transferred into interior design.
"Many of the principles in fashion design and interior design are the same. My background in fashion has helped expand my talents into interior design," said Grover.
For the past 10 years, Grover has specialized in residential design and works with prestigious interior designer Karen Butera.
She has been featured on numerous local and national television programs and is a regular contributor on ABC Channel 4's hit show, "Good Things Utah." Recently Grover began authoring books showcasing ideas on holiday decoration, thrift store and flea market decorating and planning special events.
Her book titles include: "Scary Scenes for Halloween," "Dime Store Decorating," "Fabulous Flea Market Decorating," "Handmade Gift Wrap Bows, Cards & Tags" and "Throwing the Perfect Shower."
Coming out in 2005 will be Grover's new book, "Throwing the Perfect Party — Fun Games and Activities for Wedding and Baby Showers."
She will also author a new teen series, "Tween Friends." The first two books are titled "Jewelry and Accessories" and "Room Decorating."
Grover will teach a seminar titled, "Decorating Your Home for Fun and Parties." The seminar will be a collaboration of ideas from all of Grover's books. Home show visitors will learn how to maximize their thrift store shopping experience and create "expensive looking" accessories. Grover will also share
party planning ideas for wedding, baby showers and holiday parties including invitations, birth announcements, table settings and decorations.
Seminar times: Friday at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.; Saturday at 11a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Six years ago, Marla Dee left corporate America to follow her passion of becoming a professional organizer. She started her business Clear & Simple and has enjoyed incredible success.
"I love organizing," said Dee. "Restoring order to a person's home and office is such a gift of life. The home environment should support, nurture and grow relationships, not lead to chaos."
Clear & Simple was founded on the principle that organization will bring order, clarity and freedom into individuals' lives. Organization is achieved by learning to use systems and skills that will free your life from clutter.
Dee has recently served as the president of the Utah Association of Professional Organizers. She has appeared on local TV shows, radio shows and written articles that have appeared in Utah Business, Utah Health and Catalyst magazines.
As a certified trainer and teacher, Dee instructs workshops on time management, organizing paper and communications, clutter clearing, the "Clear & Simple Systems" and "Energy Space" clearing.
"Organizing should be simple, fun and freeing," said Dee. "Every individual, family or business can benefit from systems and tools created for their lifestyle. Once the systems and tools have been established for an individual, the next step is maintenance."
Teaching people how to change their lives through organization and order is the main focus of the Clear & Simple seminars taught by Dee.
At the home show Dee will teach a seminar titled, "Top 10 Tips for Organizing the Home."
In this seminar, attendees will learn such principles as: establishing a paper flow system, setting up a family communication room and the power of labeling.
In addition to sharing essential organization strategies, Dee will also show a variety of products that promote clutter free living.
The Clear & Simple products range from decorative containers that are used to hold mail in the kitchen to storage bins and labels.
Seminar times: Friday at 2:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.; Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.; Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
