Provo schools: Possible closure plans

Scenario A — Growth and reconstruction model

Provides more schools in the west, while reconstructing older buildings in the east.

Close up to three elementary schools and two middle schools.

Build or convert up to two new elementary schools and one middle school.

Final goal — 12 elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools.

Scenario B — Growth and conversion model

Provides more schools in the west while converting middle school facilities in the east to elementary schools.

Close up to four elementary schools and two middle schools, which will be converted to elementary schools.

Build one elementary school in the west. Build one middle school.

Scenario C — Quadrant model

Preserves "neighborhood schools" by keeping schools within walking location of most students. City is divided into four roughly equal quadrants. Each quadrant would have three elementary schools. The two west-side quadrants would attend Centennial Middle School and Timpview High School. The two east-side quadrants would attend Dixon Middle School (or a new middle school) and Provo High School.

Close up to three elementary schools and two middle schools.

Build or convert up to two new elementary schools and one middle school.

Final goal —12 elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools.

Scenario D — Sixth-grade learning centers model

Addresses overcrowding by establishing sixth-grade learning centers at the three middle schools. Up to 333 students could choose to attend the learning centers rather than conventional sixth grade.

Close up to three elementary schools.

Build one elementary school.

Final goal — 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools.

Scenario E — Target school model

All elementary and middle schools are expanded to accommodate "target" student body populations — roughly 650 students for elementary schools and 950 for middle schools.

Close up to three elementary schools and one middle school.

Build one elementary school.

Final goal — 11 elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools.
