LOGAN — Utah State's women's volleyball team dropped a three-game match to 13th-ranked UC Santa Barbara here Thursday night by final scores of 24-30, 23-30, and 25-30 to fall to 3-10 on the season and 0-6 in the Big West Conference. The Gauchos improved to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in league play with the win.
Utah State has now lost seven straight matches to UC Santa Barbara and is 1-12 all-time against the Gauchos at home. The Aggies have also lost 13 straight matches to ranked opponents dating back to 2001.
Junior Zuzana Cernianksa led Utah State with a match-high 20 kills as she hit .310 overall (20-7-42). Freshmen Carolyn Forbush and Amanda Orgill added 11 and 10 kills each, while sophomore Kelsi Thoman had a match-high 16 digs.
Sophomore Olivia Waldowski led a trio of UC Santa Barbara players who notched double-digits in kills with 11.
As a team, Utah State hit .160 in the match while UC Santa Barbara hit .325 overall. USU did record two more kills (54-52) and two more service aces (4-2) in the match, but the Aggies also had 17 more hitting errors (30-13).
Utah State will return to action on Saturday against Cal Poly at noon.
