FIRST-HALF MVP

LANCE ALLRED: The senior has been the top player for the 'Cats through the preseason. The 6-foot-10, 270-pound center has performed so far with blue-collar consistency. Recently named the Big Sky player of the week, Allred had five straight double-doubles going before a 20-point, seven-rebound effort against Utah. He is averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds per game.

"No question Lance has had a terrific year," coach Joe Cravens said. "But he deserves to have a terrific year because he has worked harder than everyone else in the offseason, every day in practice, and he's the hardest worker every day in the weight room."

FOR WEBER STATE TO CONTEND. . .

For starters, Weber needs to start making baskets. Opponents have preyed on the Wildcats' inability to play well against a zone defense because they can't hit the outside shot. Weber is 1-7 when opponents have shot a better field goal percentage. Weber is averaging 14.3 turnovers per game while opponents are committing just 11.5. The Wildcats will also need to win consistently at home and pick up a few wins on the road.
