It's not surprising, but it was so disheartening to read Provo Republican Rep. Stephen Clark's comments about women during a debate on whether to allow exemptions for rape victims from the proposed abortion legislation. For him to even suggest that there are "varying degrees of rape" is troublesome. He said that if "a woman goes out and gets drunk, passes out and gets raped," that the rape is of a lesser degree — that it is not violent and does not cause permanent physical or psychological damage. How on earth does he know? He implies that the woman is at fault if a man rapes her after she has been drinking.

Rep. Clark must really loathe women. Or why propose that the state Legislature rape a woman again by taking away her freedom to choose what is best for her?
