FRANKLY AMAZING

Nets coach Lawrence Frank tied an NBA record for the best start as a coach at 9-0 with New Jersey's 105-85 win over Cleveland on Wednesday night. Frank, who took over for the fired Byron Scott on Jan. 26 matched the record set by Kurt Rambis (Los Angeles Lakers, 1998-1999) and Buddy Jeannette (Baltimore Bullets 1947-1948).

KOBE'S RETURN

Kobe Bryant scored 14 points on 4-for-7 shooting in his first game back from the injured list in the Lakers' 102-87 loss to Houston on Wednesday night. Bryant missed seven games with a cut on his right index finger.

IMMORTALIZED

A 17-foot bronze statue of Magic Johnson was unveiled on Wednesday at the Staples Center. Appropriately, the sculpted figure shows Johnson dribbling with his right hand and pointing with his left index finger as if leading a fast break. Johnson won five NBA championships with the Lakers in the 1980's. The team played at the Forum in nearby Inglewood during that time, moving to Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles in 1999.

THE KID DELIVERS

Kevin Garnett scored 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Minnesota past the Utah Jazz 77-66.

SPEAKING

"Man, 25 years ago, coming here to this great city, I never expected anything like this. This statue represents every player that I played with. It's not about me, it's about the team and the way we played together." — Magic Johnson, at the unveiling of a 17-foot bronze statue in his likeness outside the Staples Center on Wednesday.
