Vietnam War veteran and retired airline pilot David F. Edgerly of Sandy has been named commander of the Civil Air Patrol's Wasatch Squadron in Salt Lake City.

The squadron is composed of 58 pilot and support volunteers who conduct emergency search and rescue flights and homeland security and counter-drug reconnaissance missions at the request of local state and federal agencies.

Col. Jack Butterfield, commander of the CAP Wing, said the new commander replaces Harry Shehan, who led the squadron for the past two years.

Edgerly was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters for completing 87 combat missions in Vietnam and was a pilot for Pan American World Airways for 25 years.
