TAYLORSVILLE — A SWAT team was attempting to talk to a man late Wednesday who was shooting a gun from the back of his house.

No one had been hit by bullets. At least 15 neighbors in the area, near 5000 South and 4000 West, were evacuated, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Rosie Rivera said.

The man was alone. There was no police history at the house. The man, 85, had undergone surgery earlier Wednesday. About 9 p.m., the man stepped outside and unloaded his pistol. He went back inside and reloaded it. Then he went back outside and shot again, Rivera said.

It was unknown how many bullets had been fired. A handgun can carry eight to 18 bullets, depending on the type, Rivera said.
