Work to detour California Zephyr

SHARE Work to detour California Zephyr

The California Zephyr passenger train will not pass through Salt Lake City during four eight-day periods this summer while improvements are made to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks west of Denver, Amtrak said.

Service to Green River, Helper and Provo also will be suspended on those days: June 8-15, June 23-30, July 8-15 and July 23-30.

During those time frames, the Zephyr will detour between Denver and Salt Lake City on a northern route through Wyoming. The detour will follow the historic transcontinental railroad route on freight rail tracks that have not been used by passenger trains since 1997. Passengers traveling between Chicago and Denver, or between Salt Lake City and the San Francisco Bay Area, will not be affected. For more information, call 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit www.amtrak.com.
