Virginia Staples Nielson, 92, of Central Valley, Utah, passed away on March 16, 2004 in Richfield.

Virginia was born August 3rd, 1911 in Inverury (Central Valley) to George Asa and Clarina "Clara" Marie Sorensen Staples. She married Joseph Grant "Sonny" Nielson, June 30, 1931, in Manti, Utah. The marriage was solemnized April 23, 1977, in the Manti LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1976.

Virginia was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many capacities in the Relief Society Organization. She served as secretary in three separate presidencies, was quilt director for 12 years until she was 86 years old and was a member of the sewing club for 50 years. She taught the Gleaner Girls in Mutual, was a member of the ward choir and sang with the Singing Mothers at October General Conference in 1964. She was also a member of the DUP, Camp Cove View.

She is survived by children: Diana (Monte) Rugg of St. George; Robert S. Nielson and Carl G. (Janet) Nielson both of Central Valley; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bert Asa Staples of Central Valley; sister, Lorna Nielson of Richfield; and sister-in-law Alice Polomsky, of Mesa, Arizona. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Paul Staples; sister, Lula (Marlin) Peterson; grandchildren, Kim Nielson, Julie Nielson; and brother-in-law, John Nielson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Central Ward LDS Chapel, 40 South 100 East, Annabella. Friends may call at the Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the ward chapel in Annabella on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery.
