1921 ~ 2004
Elizabeth Ann LaPine died peacefully on March 17, 2004, St Patrick's Day, surrounded by her loving family. Words cannot express the sorrow, or how much we will miss our mother, sister, grandma, aunt, and friend.
She was born on February 16, 1921, to Paul and May Fleming in Chicago, Illinois. She later moved with her family to Glendive, MT, where she attended high school. While at the University of Montana at Missoula, she met her sweetheart, Glen Herschel LaPine. Shortly after World War II, they married and began a long and rewarding life together. Through Glen's distinguished military career, they were stationed in many places including Japan, Georgia, North Carolina, Arkansas, Texas, and eventually in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they retired. During this time, they established many life-long friendships.
Betty took great joy and satisfaction participating in many community and church organizations. She was a devoted and enthusiastic parishioner at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. She particularly enjoyed her affiliation with the Altar Society, serving as secretary for twelve years. She was honored as Catholic Women of the Year. As a member of the 49er's seniors group, she served as the Parliamentarian and enjoyed many outings with her friends to Wendover. Betty was always an active lady and took part in the Prime Timers aerobics class until just a few years ago. She was involved in the Retired Officers Wives' Association, and enjoyed the friendships of ladies in her bridge group. The family would like to thank her many, many dear friends and neighbors for being such a wonderful part of her life.
She is survived by her three loving sons: John LaPine and his wife Kathy, Joe LaPine and Kathy Baier, Tim LaPine and his wife Julie. Grandma Betty was adored by her three grandchildren, Ryan LaPine and his wife Samantha, Ashlee LaPine, and Thomas LaPine. She is also survived by her brother William Fleming. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen LaPine, son James LaPine, and granddaughter Aimee LaPine.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 20th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 S. 2300 E. Committal will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 4th Ave and "T" Street. A rosary vigil service will be held Friday, March 19th at 5:00 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 E. 100 S., where friends may call from 4 - 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the St. Ambrose Cosgriff School or charity of choice.
