Ellen S. Anderson, 85, passed away Friday, February 27, 2004. She will be missed by a large posterity who love and admire her for her dedication to her family and her wonderful example of work and service.
Ellen was born October 7, 1918 in Holden, Utah to John Valentine and Erma Turner Styler. As the oldest daughter in the family, she grew up shouldering responsibility both in the kitchen and in the field. She attended BYU and trained at Holy Cross Hospital. She became a registered nurse in 1940 and served as Public Health Nurse for Sanpete County where she met and married Robert O. Anderson from Ephraim. They were married in the Manti LDS Temple October 11, 1941. She spent the rest of her life raising six children, working as a nurse at Gunnison Valley Hospital, serving in her church, and providing a gathering place for her family. She raised a large garden and taught her children frugality and industry.
Ellen is survived by her children, Mary Ellen (Rue) Nielson, Jack Robert (Eileen), Gary Lee (Jannette), Jay Val (Michele), Max Orrin (Kathy), and Jeanne (Shon) Tripp. Surviving sisters include Lucille, Ila (Arlo) Messinger, and Nella (Ed) Copelin. She has 40 grandchildren and 29 great-grand-children. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert; two grandsons; and brothers, Arlyn J. Styler and Russell T. Styler.
A viewing will be Tuesday, March 2, from 6-8 p.m. at the Ephraim 5th Ward Building 751 South 100 East, Ephraim, Utah. The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at 12 noon with a viewing from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services. In lieu of flowers, well-wishers are encouraged to make a donation to the Robert O. and Ellen S. Anderson Scholarship at Snow College. Burial, Ephraim City Cemetery.
