AUBURN, Wash. — Spurred on by a Feb. 8, 2003, Church News account of a successful family week event in Blue Springs, Mo., Julie Molen of the Auburn (Wash.) Ward marshaled residents in her community for a similar event the week of Feb. 22-28.
Sister Molen contacted Diane Mack, the organizer of Blue Springs Family Week for advice and inspiration. Then she contacted Auburn Food Bank board member Debbie Christian. Other community leaders were enlisted, and the stage was set.
Events in Auburn included art and essay contests in the elementary schools, Monday night set aside as a weekly family time, a music festival presented by area churches and community groups, a contest for time spent doing things together as a family, a school night with a motivational speaker, and a family fun run.
