Location: The museums are on Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma, Wash. From north or southbound I-5, take the City Center exit, 133. Follow the I-705/City Center signs to 21st Street and take an immediate right onto Pacific Avenue. Pay parking is available. Using the same exit, visitors can also follow the Tacoma Dome signs, park there free and take the free 1.6-mile downtown streetcar line to the museums.

Washington State History Museum: 1911 Pacific Ave., Tacoma; contact 888-BE THERE or www.washingtonhistory.org. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with hours until 8 p.m. on Thursday; noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $5 for students, $6.50 for seniors, $7 for adults.

Tacoma Art Museum: 1701 Pacific Ave., Tacoma; contact 253-272-4258 or www.tacomaartmuseum.org. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with hours until 8 p.m. on Thursday; noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $6.50 for adults; $5.50 for military, students and seniors; children under 6 are free, and admission is free the third Thursday of each month.
