LOGAN (AP) — A Sky View High School physics teacher has been accused of breaking into a Logan home and stealing prescription drugs.
Joshua Barnett, 29, who resigned March 11, is charged with four second-degree felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, one second-degree felony count of burglary and one class-B misdemeanor count of theft.
Barnett was in his second year of teaching at Sky View.
Authorities allege Barnett broke into a woman's home through a back door this month, while she was attending church. The woman reportedly was an acquaintance of Barnett's.
Police Sgt. Bret Randall said prescription pain killers were found in Barnett's truck in the high school parking lot, and Barnett told officers he was taking them to treat an old knee injury.
Court records show Barnett was arrested in 2001 on a charge of acquiring a controlled substance by prescription alteration. He completed a one-year court-sponsored drug program and the charge was dismissed in November 2002.
Barnett is scheduled to appear in court on April 5.
