Bertha Lockwood Averett Halstead died March 21, 2004 of natural causes in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born July 30, 1915 in Kinta, Oklahoma to Lowell and Lettie Couts Lockwood.

Married Charles Noel Douglas Averett October 28, 1931 in Latimer County, Oklahoma. In 1934 they moved to California, where Bertha ran a boarding house and Charles worked at the Kaiser Naval Shipyard in Richmond. Later Bertha opened a beauty shop in San Bruno.

Charles and Bertha retired in Oakdale, California, where Charles died in 1979. Bertha married Ralph Halstead in 1985. He died two years later.

Survived by her children, Richard Lee Averett, of Salt Lake City, Utah and Joyce Decker of Greenbrier, Arkansas. She leaves 11 grandchildren, over 20 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, on Wednesday, March 24th at 11 a.m. Friends and family may call during the hour prior to services. Interment will be in Hughson, California at Lakewood Memorial Park.
