A Salt Lake County residence received an unexpected visitor in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Shortly after midnight, a 36-year-old man crashed his vehicle into a condominium complex after veering off of Wasatch Boulevard near 7350 South.

The man was heading north on Wasatch Boulevard near the Canyon Racquetball Club when he crossed over into the southbound lane, drove off a steep embankment, hit a couple of units and eventually landed on the deck of the condo at the bottom of the hill, a Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.

The man was airlifted to LDS Hospital in critical condition. He was upgraded to serious condition later Saturday morning.

Nobody in the condo, believed to have been vacant at the time, was injured. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office estimated damage to the condos, the wrecked deck and broken windows to be about $20,000.

The accident was "possibly alcohol-related," and it remains under investigation, said Sgt. Rosie Rivera of the sheriff's department.
