1948 ~ 2004
Steve Wood left this earthly life to return to the arms of his Heavenly Father, February 24, 2004. He will forever be in the hearts of his beloved family and many friends.
Steve was born January 14, 1948, in Santa Monica, California, to Gordon and Laura Owen Wood. He spent his early life in California and loved fishing, being out of doors, and the ocean. While still a small child, his mother married Henry S. Muceus, which gave Steve three step-brothers and sisters. Later, four more brothers and sisters joined this family.
Steve served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Northern England. Those were precious years to him. Upon his return he married Donna Matkin in May of 1977. He attended BYU but left his schooling to form his own roofing construction business in the Utah Valley Area.
He was an extremely hard worker. While living in Lehi, he and his family took up the hobby of raising miniature horses. In 2000, Steve moved his hobby horse farm to a little rural setting near Springfield, Missouri. Greg, his son, continues to run the family roofing business in Utah. At the time of his death, Steve was enrolled at SMSU where he was finishing his last semester to obtain a degree in Agriculture Economics. He was also working as a counselor in a group home and was greatly loved by the boys.
He loved his new homestead and spent many hours trimming trees, stocking the fish ponds, caring for the miniature horse herd, putting up countless fences and other improvements. He always made every home and yard he lived in a place of beauty. Steve easily adapted into the life of a gentleman farmer and enjoyed cutting the pasture hay with his tractor. Steve was warm and welcoming to those he met. He had a fun spontaneous sense of fun which evolved into many family adventures.
He will be missed beyond measure by his loving wife, Donna Matkin Wood, and his three sons, Scott, Jeff, and Greg Wood. They all considered their dad as one of their best friends. Steve is also survived by his mother, Laura Muceus, and siblings, Lynda, Ed, and Cheryl Muceus, Mary Conklin, Adrienne Brownfield, and Becky Stephens. Preceded in death by his brother, Jon Muceus; his father, Gordon B. Wood, and Henry S. Muceus.
Funeral services will be Sat., March 6, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the Lehi 8th Ward Chapel, 2790 N. Center, where family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery under the direction of Wing Mortuary, Lehi.
