A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted the alleged criminal known as "Slim Jim" with 16 counts of bank robbery.

Jeremy Scott Van Duren faces up to 20 years on each count if convicted.

According to the indictment, Van Duren robbed 16 banks in Salt Lake County between July 28 and Jan. 5.

The 30-year-old Sandy man was charged last month with 13 counts of first-degree felony aggravated robbery. The state charges will probably be dismissed in deference to Wednesday's federal charges.

Law enforcement officers linked Van Duren to the heists because of his thin physical appearance in surveillance videos.
