A man accused of killing another man during a fight over a woman pleaded guilty by reason of a mental illness Monday.
Allen Adolph Kelly, 28, West Valley City, entered the plea in 3rd District Court as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. In exchange for the guilty plea to one count of first-degree felony murder, prosecutors dropped charges of aggravated burglary and obstruction of justice.
Kelly will be sentenced in May.
Court documents charge that Kelly fired multiple shots at Brent Sumner during an argument at Sumner's home on Oct. 6, 2003. The two men were acquaintances, but Kelly had entered Sumner's home without permission, the charges state.
