SHARE SCO Group announces new CFO

Lindon-based SCO Group Inc., which is seeking billions of dollars in royalties from Linux software users, on Wednesday named Bert Young as chief financial officer.

Bob Bench, 55, CFO for the past 3 1/2 years, will be acting vice president of corporate development until he retires later this year, SCO said in a statement.

Young, 50, was CFO at LANDesk Software Ltd. and previously held the same job at both Talk2 Technology Inc. and Whittman-Hart Inc., now called MarchFirst Inc. He also is a former chief information officer at Waste Management Inc.

SCO has said it owns the Unix operating system and that Linux, which backers say is a low-cost alternative to Microsoft Corp.'s Windows, contains code from it. Legal experts have said the company's claims will be difficult to prove.

SCO spokesman Blake Stowell couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Shares of SCO fell 38 cents, or 5.3 percent, to close at $6.80 on Nasdaq. They have declined for 10 consecutive trading days.
