A former LDS bishop and state Department of Corrections administrator agreed Friday to conditions that will keep him out of jail while his sexual-abuse case is pending.

Prosecutors allege David James Gomez, 57, sexually abused a 13-year-old boy between 1989 and 1990. Gomez will be under the supervision of PreTrial Services throughout the court case.

Clad in a suit and tie, Gomez appeared in 3rd District Court on Friday to be arraigned on three counts of sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony, and three counts of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

While under watch of PreTrial Services, Gomez must avoid all contact with the victim, his family or any witnesses in the case. He posted $25,000 bond and was released from the Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.

Gomez declined to comment outside court Friday. His next scheduled court appearance is May 20.
