More than 60 years of promoting excellence in young classical musicians continues at this year's State Fair.
Entry categories for student musicians ages 8 to 23 include solo piano, strings, wind/brass/percussion, voice, harp and organ. Cash awards and ribbons will be presented to first-, second- and third-place winners in each category. Entry is $25 per contestant.
Judy Duncombe, Utah State Fairpark assistant general manager, said the State Fair brings in internationally renowned judges while keeping the entry fee as low as possible.
The competition is funded by the Utah State Fair Corporation with support from the Utah Federation of Music Clubs and Baldassin Performance Pianos.
Entry dates are June 1 through July 1, 2004. Entries will not be accepted prior to June 1 and must be postmarked by July 1 or hand-delivered to the Fairpark Administration Office, 155 N. 1000 West, Salt Lake City, UT 84116 no later than 4 p.m. on July 1.
