WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Utes took care of the University of Portland 4-3 Sunday at the Eccles Tennis Center.

MEN'S TENNIS: Utah opened its Mountain West Conference season with a 6-0 loss to UNLV on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

SOFTBALL: In a first-ever meeting, the Utes host UVSC in a single game today at 3 p.m. at Ute Field. The two teams will play again on April 27.

WOMEN'S GOLF: BYU is in fourth place at the 19th annual BYU Dixie Classic at Entrada at Snow Canyon on Monday in St. George.

The Cougars scored their second best opening round of the season (300) on the challenging course, but as afternoon winds picked up, so did the scores — and BYU finished the day with a second-round 314.

The Cougars were led by Natalie Newren, who ended the day tied for eighth after scoring a pair of 75s.

Defending champion UNLV shot a blistering 291 to jump into a 15-stroke lead after trailing second-place San Francisco by two stokes in the first round.

UNLV was led by individual leader Sunny Oh, who holds a four-stroke lead at two-under par.

The 57th-ranked Cougars trail conference rival No. 43 San Diego State by three strokes heading into the final round.
