1920 ~ 2004

Richard "Dick" Warren Larsen passed away May 6, 2004 in Salt Lake City.

He was born November 26, 1920 in Salt Lake to Vego Peter and Annie Sophia Werner Larsen.

He graduated from Granite High School in 1939 and attended LDS Business College for eight months in 1941. He married Violet Edith Urry June 10, 1943 in the Urry family home.

He served during World War II, 1942 to 1945 headquarters Co. in the 91st Infantry Div. band, European Theater.

He was a third-generation water well driller by profession, and an avid numismatist. He developed lasting friendships in all of his work efforts and hobbies.

Music was a big part of his life. He played the clarinet, saxophone and the piano. He played throughout his school years including participation in the Snappy Steppers dance band which played for many community and church dances, and "they were darn good." He played in many other bands during his life including the Elks Band, The Salt Lake U.S. Post Office Band, Little German Band, and the South Salt Lake Band. He never forgot or failed to enjoy the music and the fun of the "big band" era.

Amazingly, many of his lifelong friendships were developed in his earliest school days at the old Madison School in South Salt Lake and continued through almost 80 years of life's experiences.

He was very protective of his family and worked literally all his days to provide for their welfare. When most men were thinking of retiring to the golf course he was learning to be a contractor. His pride and joy were his children and his grandchildren. He was most unselfish with all the assistance he, with his talents, was capable of providing them. Many family outings were planned around band performances. He also loved taking his boys water skiing, spending time at the family cabin and picnicking in the mountains.

He is survived by his wife, Edith, sons Richard Allen (Pam) and Ronald Evan (Jeannie) Larsen, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Philip Larsen; and brother, Eugene Frank Larsen.

Funeral services will be Wednesday May 12, 2004 at 12 noon at the LDS chapel at 3219 South 300 East in Salt Lake City. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive and from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to funeral services at the ward.

Dad, we miss you so much!
