Van Calvin McCleary, beloved husband, father and grandfather returned home to his wife for Mothers Day, May 9, 2004.
Born July 25, 1927 the only child of Benjamin Alma McCleary and LaNome Ann McCleary. He enjoyed a wonderful childhood in both Sandy and later in Midvale where he spent the rest of his life. After losing his father at a young age he developed close relationships with his Grandpa Van Dam and Uncle Jay along with other cousins and relatives.
After a nine-year courtship he started his family with Eleanor Bethers on July 10, 1960 and was later sealed in the Jordan River Temple. Throughout life mom and dad existed to provide for their children and grandchildren. Dad always loved to give surprises to each of us. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and honorably fulfilled each of his
callings.
Dad always worked hard and was very skilled in sheet-metal work, mechanical and fixing everything and anything. He had various jobs, but settled down and retired from Jordan School District Maintenance Department where he left many good friends. He loved gardening and taking care of horses, dogs, cats and any needy animal. He loved his collection of tractors and vehicles. He loved parades, going out to breakfast and driving the loop.
