A Salt Lake Community College student is one of 27 nationally to receive a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation scholarship.

Marilyn Huang, 20, competed with 900 applicants to win one of the $30,000 scholarships. Huang is a business student living in Salt Lake City.

Students are nominated by the two-year institutions they attend and must have plans to graduate to a four-year program.

The 2004 awards are among the largest scholarships ever offered through private philanthropy to college students, according to a SLCC press release.
