CHICAGO (AP) — Mayor Richard Daley asked the state Legislature Monday to allow the city of Chicago to own a casino that could earn hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

Daley said the land-based casino would employ 2,500 people and be operated by an independent company. He estimated it would bring $600 million to $700 million in annual revenue for the state, with the city getting $250 million to $300 million a year.

Daley's proposed law, coming late in the Legislature's spring session, faces an uncertain future.
