TACOMA, Wash. — It seems as if the Salt Lake Stingers just can't catch a break these days. The Stingers have dropped 13 of their last 17 games but had taken a 2-0 lead in the first inning Monday night at Tacoma. Unfortunately, the rain started to fall and by the third inning, the umpires suspended play.

The game will be resumed in the bottom of the third inning when the Stingers return to Tacoma on June 14. Salt Lake grabbed the lead on a two-run single by Brian Gordon. Adam Riggs doubled with one out, and with two Alex Pelaez and Wil Nieves were walked by Cha Seung Baek to load the bases. Gordon then drilled a 1-1 pitch to center field that scored Riggs and Pelaez.

Steve Green, who has lost three straight starts, opened strong by striking out the side in the first. He walked one batter, but was not scored on in the second.

NOTES: Stingers second baseman Brian Specht is expected to be out a week with a shoulder injury. He hurt his left shoulder when he went down to avoid being tagged in a rundown during Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader in Tacoma. . . . Brendan Donnelly came out of Sunday's second game after just eight pitches with what was described as "discomfort" in his right elbow. There has been no determination as to when he may pitch again.
