DENVER — Attorneys for two alleged rape victims asked a federal judge on Monday to force the University of Colorado to hand over information about alleged sexual misconduct by football players.
The women filed lawsuits accusing the university of tolerating an atmosphere that was hostile to women. Their attorneys want reports, documents and any other information relating to alleged sexual assault or abuse by athletes.
It was at least the second attempt by the attorneys to get the information. The university has said the request is "unreasonably burdensome."
The university also said some of the documents are irrelevant to the lawsuits, have already been provided or are protected by law.
The lawsuits say the women were raped by football players or recruits during an off-campus party in December 2001.
Another women has filed a similar suit, and at least five others have accused football players or recruits of rape since 1997.
The suits sparked a recruiting scandal now under three investigations. Football coach Gary Barnett has been suspended with pay for comments he made about at least one of the women.
