1909 ~ 2004
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be
So he took you in his arms and
whispered, "Come to Me." <! >
Vlesta Evangeline Hogue, age 94, died on May 6, 2004 as the rising sun welcomed a new day. Her family was at her bedside as she peacefully left those who loved her.
She was born in Belle Plain, Iowa on October 11, 1909, the 10th of 13 children of Jan Vick and Anna Marie Drahos Vick. Her father was killed in World War I leaving her mother to raise a growing family. Most of her youth was spent in the wooded forests around Alanson, Michigan.
She married Shirley Edgar Hogue in Chicago in 1927 and moved to his family farm in Kansas. When the farm was sold they moved to California where they lived until the family relocated to Utah. She loved the changing colors of the mountains and the snow of her childhood.
She was happiest surrounded by her grand, great-grand, or great-great-grandchildren. She loved to garden and took great joy in her flowers. Quite often she would lay aside her shovel and pick up her fishing pole and wander the rivers and creeks in total peace with the world.
She is survived by her children, Margie Righettini, Ted (Poly) Hogue, Anna Marie (Lynn) Mallonee, and Tom Hogue; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Preceded in death by her husband, son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Gwen Hogue; daughter-in-law Leoni Hogue; son-in-law, Eugene Righettini; and granddaughter, Carrie Ann Hogue.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Heritage 3rd Ward for their many acts of kindness; Care Source Home Health and the Beehive House in West Jordan for their wonderful care and loving friendships.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the Heritage 10th Ward, 7645 South 3200 West, under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.
