A mother and her 6-month-old baby were reunited Tuesday night after the mother was cited for allegedly running from police with the baby's father, who stashed the baby in some bushes.
Utah Transit Authority police approached a sports-utility vehicle in a TRAX parking lot near 180 West and 1300 South about 6 p.m. Tuesday. The SUV sped away, striking three other vehicles in the parking lot, Salt Lake Police Lt. Tim Doubt said.
Police pursued the vehicle, which for a while traveled alongside the TRAX line. The man and woman inside the SUV then fled on foot. The man was carrying what police originally thought was a backpack, which he stashed in some bushes. Police later discovered it was a baby carrier and baby, Doubt said.
Police caught both the man and woman within 30 minutes. The man was booked in the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of an earlier parole violation, Doubt said.
