Like other Americans, I find shocking the photos of fellow Americans abusing Iraqi prisoners under their care. But equally shocking is the television news media's careless use of the photos.
To show them as part of the actual story is one thing, but to show them as mere background for the latest breaking news about a related story is altogether different. Particularly dismaying is the media's disregard for the sensibilities of their younger viewers.
I am certain I am not alone when I ask responsible journalists to exercise greater discretion in using the images they acquire.
