To blame the unlawful treatment of prisoners in Iraq on the secretary of defense is like blaming a forest fire on the trees. It is not surprising that the American soldiers in prison were having "fun" with their prisoners. Who taught them to act that way? Shouldn't we look at the parents, teachers and religious leaders who failed to teach them ethical and moral principles? Shouldn't we look at the numerous unethical and immoral actions taught by present-day television, movies, music and literature?
The principal problem of the mistreatment, as it relates to those soldiers, began 15 or 20 years ago. It is past time to dish out a dose of castor oil for the bellyache of immorality and unethical behavior so prevalent in our society.
